Mobile Oil Change - Facts You Should Know

Oil being drained from oil pan

Why it's Important to Change Your Oil on a Regular Basis

We all want to prolong the life of our vehicles. Well in order to keep our engines running efficiently, maximize fuel economy, and minimize emissions, it's absolutely critical to have your oil changed at the regular intervals suggested by your vehicles manufacturer.

Oil lessens the wear inside of your engine by reducing friction and lubricating and cooling all the metal parts inside. It also forms a seal between the pistons, rings, and cylinder walls. But its most important characteristic may just be its ability to clean and clear out any carbon and varnish buildup that would otherwise be lethal for your engine.

The Different Types of Oil & Which One is Right for You.

  • Conventional Motor Oil - is derived from crude oil & contains a variety of additives. It is the most affordable motor oil. However it's the least effective & requires changing at shorter intervals.
  • Synthetic Blend Motor Oil - is a mixture of Conventional & Synthetic Motor Oils.
  • Full Synthetic Motor Oil - is derived from man-made ingredients & contains a variety of additives. It can be pricey but that's because it lasts longer & is more effective. The purity and uniform molecular structure of the man-made ingredients make it more environmental friendly and the most effective at protecting your engine. Thus why most manufacturers recommend it, or at least a synthetic blend.

How Often Should You Have Your Oil Changed

The answer to this is based off many variables (i.e. manufacturer, vehicle age, driving patterns, type of oil used, etc.). Most manufacturers, assuming a synthetic or blend type is being used, recommend that newer vehicles (< 10 years) get an oil change every 5,000 - 7,500, and in some cases up to 10,000 miles. However they recommend older vehicles, especially those using conventional oil, get an oil change every 3.000 miles. It is also recommended by most manufacturers that the oil be changed every 3-4 months, even if the recommended distances have not been met.

We recommend you check your vehicles manual. Also if your vehicle is equipped with an electrical oil change reminder, & it triggers, you should heed that reminder regardless of the time or miles driven.
